Krista Larsen has served as the Biology Laboratory Coordinator at St. Mary’s University since 2014. Before joining St. Mary’s, she worked as a field biologist on horizontal directional drilling projects across Alberta and as a research technician on a fish habitat compensation project in the Northwest Territories. As a graduate student at the University of Calgary, she investigated stalk formation in Didymosphenia geminata, an invasive alga more commonly known as “rock snot.”
In addition to coordinating the biology labs, Krista typically teaches several lab courses for biology majors, including first-year biology, introductory ecology, introductory genetics, and the field trip component of marine biology. She is dedicated to creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences and enjoys watching students grasp complex concepts through active exploration and experimentation.
Outside of work, Krista enjoys being outdoors, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family. A former University of Calgary Dinos hockey player and power skating instructor, she still loves getting out on the ice whenever she can
